There’s a lot of awful stuff going on in the world in the moment. I started looking for music from some of the more troubled zones, as a reminder that there’s more to Iraq, Syria, Gaza, Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc. than war, disease and disaster …. but I ran out of time and just went for a song I know and love. Maybe King Sunny Ade will cheer you up too.
This is one of my favourite songs, so it’s a treat to have found a live version — he is so exuberant. I wish I’d been at this party! Actually, if you want some more fun, you can check out the post on Liberian music I wrote last year. I called it Liberia Bounces Back, a reference both to the Liberians’ resilience after civil war, and to some very bouncy music and dance. I hope that Liberians bounce back from ebola very soon. Border Crossings 
Ju Ju Music which came out around 1980 was tremendous. I finished my massive uni research paper listening to King Sunny Ade, massive amounts of Fela Kuti (my main man of all times), Baba Maal and The Wish by Hamza al Dan.
I live right out in the piney woods, and just the other day a friend told me that he saw Toumani Diabate at a near local watering hole some time ago. This friend has also been to Ghana a couple of times for music purposes. He didn’t improve his drumming much, but I’m still envious.
I enjoy these African music posts and those Ghana photos.
What do I suggest?

Thanks for the visit and the recommendations KingTubby. A friend of my brother met Toumani Diabate at a bar when he came to Sydney a few years ago … We were soooo jealous, he’s one of my musical heroes too. I don’t think I’ve ever heard William Onyeabor, will be checking him out. Already a big fan of Fela and the others you mention.

Listen to BBCs Focus on Africa in the dawning hours and they often play very recent great stuff, but it is hard to catch the names for next day.
I’ll have to go to Update 3 to continue my rant about Israel, so you won’t be associated with it.
