Monday Music: Celts from coast to coast

I’ve been walking on beaches and listening to the sounds of the surf.

Driving back to Sydney from my South Coast refuge, my friend put on my Felpeyu CD.

Felpeyu are a folk band from the Asturias, a principality in north west Spain. I bought the CD when they performed in Sydney a few years ago. I hadn’t realised, until then, how closely related the music of the Spanish coast was to that of my own Irish and Scottish ancestors. It’s musical evidence that the Celts were mixing it up across the seas for centuries.

Here’s Shooglenifty, from the other side of the British Isles (Scotland).

And back in Asturias: Tejedor with the ‘Bagpipes from Hell’. Except I love the pipes, so for me it’s heaven.
